The city’s sanitation department will pick up appliances, furniture, mattresses, chairs, and other bulky items as part of its weekly trash collection. You must place a $2 trash sticker on each item, and you have to phone ahead to have appliances hauled away (no call necessary for furniture or other bulky wastes). Electronics can be properly recycled by dropping them off at the South Walnut Recycling Center at 3400 S. Walnut St. or at all Rural Recycling Centers. The type of e-waste that is accepted includes, but is not limited to: computers, cell phones, small appliances (e.g., microwaves), radios, etc. Renting a dumpster is another great way to dispose of debris, whether it’s furniture, appliances (some exceptions), debris, or otherwise. Dumpsters come in a variety of sizes, making them a great solution for various projects.
